Abstract
L. leptocarpa is a semi-aquatic plant in the Onagraceae family. The main compound of this plant are phenolic , steroid, triterpenoid derivatives. The goals of the research were to isolate and identificate phenolic compound from ethyl acetate fraction of L. leptocarpa stem and evaluate its toxicity againts murine leukemia P-388 cell. Isolation was conducted by maceration method with methanol as the solvent followed by separation and purification using several chromatographic techniques. The isolate compound was obtained as yellowish white solid as much as 27.3 mg with melting point 194.5-195.6 oC. The structure of the isolated compound was determined based on UV, IR, 1H-NMR, and 13C-NMR specrum as well as comparison with literature. Based on those spectral data, the isolated compound was methyl gallate. The isolated compound was very active cytotoxic against murine leukemia P-388 cell with IC50 1.06 μg/mL.
