Abstract
Introduction: Obesity is a condition that is represented by abnormal excessive accumulation of fat in adipose tissue that can lead to many health problems. Maternal obesity is becoming the main cause of this condition, especially in many developed countries and also some developing countries which is linked with bad maternal outcome. Research purpose was knowing the association between degree of obesity and maternal outcome in pregnant women at RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. Method: Research was done by an observational analytical study with cross sectional design. Subject in this research is pregnant women who is giving birth at RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang from January 2015-December 2017 which meet inclusin criteria. Samples were taken using purposive sampling technique. Result: From 252 subjects, 94 (37,3%) has normal body mass index (BMI), 102 (40,5%) is overweight, 44 (17,5) is on grade I obesity, 6 (2,4%) is on grade II obesity and 6 (2,4%) is the patient with grade III obesity. Some observed maternal outcome are preeclampsia: 135 cases (53,6%), gestational diabetes mellitus: 6 cases (2,4%), uterine inertia: 41 cases (16,3%), preterm birth: 56 cases (22,2%), assisted labor: 111 cases (44%) dan Healthcare associated Infections (HAIs): 6 cases (2,4%). Chi square analysis showed significant association (p<0,05) between obesity with preeclampsia, gestational diabetes mellitus, uterine inertia and assisted labor. Conclusion: This research conclude that there are significant association between obesity with preeclampsia, gestational diabetes mellitus, uterine inertia and assisted labor in pregnant women.
