Abstract

The research entitled "Online Prostitution Practices in Palembang City", this study aims to find the driving factors for online prostitution and to understand the mechanisms of online prostitution practices that exist in the city of Palembang. a way to enter and understand the hidden areas of prostitution so that it can be reached by the government as a consideration and analysis in making policies for the community. This study uses a qualitative methodology and uses a Participatory Research approach where the researcher takes part in the prostitution rite in order to obtain valid and real data and information without anything being covered and manipulated, observation and in-depth interviews with informants are the researchers' way of obtaining data and information. From the research examined, this study uses symbolic interaction theory as the basis of communication in online prostitution in Palembang and uses Anomi theory as a research assistant in finding the factors for the emergence of online prostitution in the city of Palembang. The results of this study are in the form of narratives and interviews between researchers and informants who are commercial sex workers who open social media services in Palembang City.
