Abstract
Background: Curcuma longa Linn extract has antifungal properties because it contains active substances such as curcumin, essential oils, and flavonoids.Objective: This study aimed to determine the antifungal effectiveness of Curcuma longa Linn extract against Candida albicans as a root canal treatment irrigation fluid. Materials and Methods: This study was conducted in an experimental laboratory in vitro consisting of six groups, such as Curcuma longa Linn extract with 75%, 50%, 25%, 10% concentration, Chlorhexidine 2% as a positive control, and distilled water as a negative control. The antifungal effectiveness was tested by using the agar well diffusion method. The data obtained were then analyzed using the One Way Anova test and the Post Hoc test. Results: The results showed that chlorhexidine 2% had the largest mean diameter of the inhibition zone followed by Curcuma longa Linn extract with concentrations of 75%, 50%, 25%, and 10%. However, the difference in mean values of the diameter of inhibition Chlorhexidine 2% and Curcuma longa Linn extract was not statistically significant. Distilled water didn’t have antifungal effectiveness. Conclusion: Curcuma longa Linn extract has antifungal effectiveness against Candida albicans with the highest inhibition zone diameter at a concentration of 75%.
