Abstract

Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) the main cause of mortality and morbidity of infectious diseases and decreased disability adjusted life years (DALY) in the world, especially children under five years of age. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between nutritional status and the incidence of Acute Respiratory Tract Infection (ISPA) in children under five at Health Center Sei Lekop, Batam City. This research is a quantitative study using a cross sectional design. The data used are secondary data obtained from Batam City Health Office and Batam City Sei Lekop Health Center and primary data obtained from direct interviews and questionnaires. This study uses simple random sampling method in taking the sample. The population in this study were all parents who have toddlers. The sample in this study were parents who had children under five who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria of 120 respondents. The data analysis used was univariate, bivariate and multivariate data analysis. The results of the bivariate analysis showed a relationship between nutritional status and the incidence of ARI in children under five (p-value = 0,048), and the results of the multivariate analysis showed that there was a significant relationship between nutritional status and the incidence of ARI in children under five (0,031) after controlling for variable maternal education and exclusive breastfeeding (PR = 0.158, 95% CI = 0.029-0,843). It can be concluded that there is a relationship between nutritional status and the incidence of ARI in children under five at Puskesmas Sei Lekop, Batam City. It is hoped that parents who have toddlers can improve how to care for toddlers, especially in providing nutritious food intake Keywords : ARI, Nutritional Status, Toddler
