Abstract

Palembang, which is the capital of South Sumatra, has many local performing arts. However, there is still a lack of a traditional performing arts center building to preserve this traditional culture. Therefore, the design concept of this building is to reinterpret local cultural traditions into a building with a modern function. In this case the architectural philosophy of the Limas house is interpreted for this function. The architectural philosophy of the Limas house is applied to site arrangement, building design, structures and utilities. As its philosophy, the building is on land on the river bank and is oriented primarily facing the Musi River. The building arrangement is based on the Limas house hierarchy called kekijing (floor level) with the main level being Gegajah which functions as a performance space. The building is designed by applying the Limas house architecture to the function of the performing arts center building so that there are some adjustments to the design concept. Such adjustments, such as the architectural concept, used several details of Palembang's typical carving ornaments, the use of wood materials, and gold coloring both on the interior and building facades. Another design adjustment is in the form of adjustments to the river bank building so that the concept of the house on stilts is still applied to this building and the area under the stage is used as a communal space for visitors. In addition, the form of river bank building adjustment is also applied to the concept of a waste utility system that uses an artificial wetland system so that the surrounding environment, especially the Musi River, is maintained.
