Abstract

Background: Caries is a multifactorial infectious disease characterized by a progressive demineralization process by organic acids. One of the predisposing factors is oral health behavior. Children's knowledge about oral health affects the formation of children's behavior and attitudes. Improper behavior in maintaining oral health will increase the risk of caries. Efforts to improve dental and oral health knowledge is through dental and oral health education. The purpose of this systematic review is to determine the effect of dental health education on the incidence of children’s caries in Indonesia. Methods: The type of research is a systematic review with qualitative analysis. Results: This study reviewed fourteen journals, all of which were obtained and selected from the Google Scholar journal database. The quasi experimental journal published in the last 15 years discusses the effect of oral health education with various methods and media used in elementary school children on the level of children's knowledge measured before and after counseling with pretest and posttest questionnaires. Conclusion: Dental health education to elementary school children using various methods and media of extension affect and effective on increasing children's knowledge.
