Abstract

Sumatra is a unique form of tectonic process because it is formed by several terranes which are part of the Sundaland. One of the formation processes is the collision process between Woyla Arc and West Sumatra Block which then undergoes intensive deformation so provide a path for granitic intrusion to form Garba Granite. The distribution of granite in the study area is quite wide with interesting characteristics so that it can be studied further to determine the petrogenesis and tectonic environment of the formation of the granite rock. The research used methods in the form of field observations and laboratory analysis in the form of petrographic and geochemical analysis approaches. Petrographically, granite is divided into two types, namely monzogranite and syenogranite with several special textures in the form of graphics and perthite which indicate the existence of intergrowth or the texture of growing together between quartz minerals and alkaline feldspar. There is also the presence of the mineral sericite with a very low percentage which characterizes the alteration with very weak intensity in the Garba Granite rocks. Geochemical analysis shows that Garba Granite belongs to the group persilisic rock with the rock names in the form of granite and alkaline granite. Afinite and magma series are classified into the Shoshonitic to high-K calc alkaline series which indicates that magma originates from the continental margin with relatively acidic magma properties compared to magma on the oceanic plate. The magma migration process can be seen from the Harker diagram. Granite rocks in the study area indicate the evolution and dynamics of magma which is quite far interpreted with a high SiO2 content. Granite in the study area is assumed to be a derivative magma that has been changed from the parental magma when viewed from the temperature of its formation. The tectonic environment of granite formation in the study area is at the Continental Collision Granitoid (CCG) to Continental Arc Granitoid (CAG).
