Abstract

Layered double hydroxide Mg-Fe and Ca-Fe have successfully synthesized using coprecipitation method layered double hydroxide that has been synthesis characterized by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), XRF, and spectrofotometer FT-IR. The characterization using X-ray diffraction showed sharp peak 2Ɵ at the 10o with each basal spacing 7.809 Å for Mg-Fe layered double hydroxide and 8.084 Å for layered double hydroxide Ca-Fe. The information about metal composition in layered double hydroxide characterized using XRF showed that layered double hydroxide has metal percentage 96.25% for Mg-Fe and 98.12% for layered double hydroxide Ca-Fe. The characterization using FT-IR spectrophotometer showed the characteristic of layered double hydroxide Mg-Fe dan Ca-Fe by the vibration at wavenumber 500-700 cm-1 indicate vibration of M-O in both of layered double hydroxide . Layered double hydroxide Mg-Fe and Ca-Fe were used as the hydrogen adsorbent with pressure variation, adsorption time, adsorbent weight, and adsorbent size. Adsorption of hydrogen using Ca-Fe layered double hydroxide optimum at the pressure 5 bar, time of 60 min, weight of adsorbent 1,5 g and size 200 mesh with the hydrogen adsorption was 59,936 mg/g. Adsorption of hydrogen using layered double hidroxide Mg-Fe has the best result at the pressure 3 bar, time of 60 min, weight of adsorbent 1.5 g and size 200 mesh with the hydrogen adsorption gas of 34.021 mg/g. The adsorption results showed that the layered double hydroxide Mg-Fe and Ca-Fe are more selective to hydrogen gas than oxygen and nitrogen gas.
