Abstract

Diarrhea is one of the leading causes of death among children. Hygiene and food safety is one of the factors causing diarrhea for children. Increasing knowledge about healthy snack foods is needed in order to foster children's attitudes and behavior in choosing snack foods at school. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of x-banner media on increasing children’s knowledge of healthy snacks. Quantitative research using a quasi-experimental research design with a one group pre and post test design. The sample in this study was taken by total sampling method as many as 31 students of 5th grade SD Negeri 1 Cinta Jaya. The method of analysis of this research used univariate and bivariate analysis, using independent t-test. Results: It is known that the average respondent's knowledge at pretest was 6.26 and the average respondent's knowledge at the posttest was 8.61. The results of the bivariate analysis showed that there was a difference in the average score of knowledge (p-value <0.05) of children regarding healthy snacks before and after being given health education using X-Banner media. The difference in the average score of children's knowledge is 2.35. X-Banner media regarding healthy snacks can be considered as a medium for delivering information to children at school, which is used as a tool in the health education process directly to children or can be placed in relevant places such as school canteens and corridors so that it is expected can increase children's knowledge about healthy snacks.
