Abstract

The using of ethanolic extract 96% of matoa leaves to determine the effect of giving and oral dosage of ethanolic 96% extract of matoa leaves (Pometia pinnata) which can provide teratogenic effects on fetal mice (Mus musculus). Matoa leaves contain flavonoids and saponins which are thought to be potential teratogenic agents. The dosage given is 250, 500, 1000 mg/kgBW. The extract was given during the organogenesis period, on the 9th-17th day of pregnancy, then the pregnant mice were dissected on the 18th day to observe fetal weight, number of live fetuses, number of dead fetuses, number of implants, number of embryos absorbed, external fetal abnormalities, and fetal skeletal disorders. The results of statistical analysis with ANOVA showed that the given of ethanolic 96% extract of matoa leaves had a significant effect on inhibition of supraoccipital, and a very significant effect on inhibition of cervical vertebral, sacrocaudal vertebral body, sacrocaudal arch, sternum (asymmetric dumbbell-shaped), anterior intermediet phalanx and the posterior intermediet phalanx (F > F crit 0,01). Based on the DMRT test (Duncan Multiple Range Test), it shows that the dose of P1 (250 mg / kgBW) is the minimum dose that causes teratogenic effects (P1 > DMRT 0,05), it can be concluded that the ethanol extract of matoa leaves has a teratogenic effect on fetal mice (Mus musculus).
