Abstract

The security of information is an essential aspect that must be considered these days, especially for private or confidential information, security can be done in several ways, including cryptographic and steganographic methods, which have their respective advantages and disadvantages, so we can combine the two methods to get a higher level of security. This study is based on the process of encrypting text messages using the RC4 cryptographic algorithm and inserted it into the image media using the LSB method. There are 3 images with 128X128, 256X256, 512X512, 1920X1920, and 2400X2400 resolutions each with a total of 15 images and also ASCII messages with a length of 100, 250, and 500 characters that will be inserted in each image for testing purpose. The stego image quality is based on the PSNR score. On this study the PSNR score on all test images and texts delivers the lowest score of 68.319 and the highest score of 76.921, which meets the criteria as a good stego image. Besides that, the RC4 cryptographic algorithm can also deliver a good Avalanche Effect with a 46.25% of average score, and the combination of the RC4 cryptography algorithm with the LSB steganography method has very small differences in execution time in each test scheme.
