Abstract

Skin health complaints are often suffered by the general public in Indonesia related to environmental sanitation, personal hygiene, and use of river water. This study aims to determine the relationship between environmental sanitation and personal hygiene with skin health complaints and efforts to prevent COVID-19 in communities on the banks of the Musi river, Plaju District, Palembang City. This research uses a combination method (mix method). The quantitative approach uses a cross sectional study design with a simple random sampling technique. Quantitative data were analyzed by univariate and bivariate using the chi-Square test. The sample population is 96 respondents, namely people who live on the banks of the Musi River in the village of Bagus Kuning, aged <33 years and> 33 years old. Collecting quantitative data using questionnaires and observation sheets, then qualitative data is obtained through in-depth interviews in accordance with the interview guidelines. The results of the bivariate analysis showed that there was a relationship between clean water sources (p-value 0,000), use of latrines (p-value 0.003), waste management (p-value 0.001), sewerage (p-value 0,000), bathing habits ( p-value 0,000) and the habit of washing hands with soap (p-value 0,000) with skin health complaints. In terms of environmental sanitation and personal hygiene, efforts to prevent COVID-19 are still not good enough. The use of Musi River water by the community with community behavior such as the use of slung latrines, garbage and SPAL which are directly dumped into the Musi river, as well as bathing habits and habits of CTPS which are still not good, giving the risk of skin health complaints to the people who live on the banks of the Musi River, Kelurahan Bagus Kuning, Kecamatan Plaju Palembang. The community is expected to always pay attention to environmental sanitation conditions and personal hygiene, such as treating river water before use, not open defecation in the river, not throwing waste into the river, bathing using clean water and washing hands using soap and water regularly.
