Abstract
This study aims to see how the effect of giving L. acidophilus and chitosan against the amount of cholesterol in serati duck meat and its effect on the number of leucocytes in the blood. This study used 2-month-old serati ducks with 4 treatments: control A (basal ration), B (basal and chitosan rations), C (basal and L. acidophilus), D (basal, chitosan, and L. acidophilus). Cholesterol levels in serati duck meat were measured using enzymatic color method by 1gr sample of duck meat extracted and measured by spectrophotometer with cholesterol kit reagent as blank. The number of blood leucocytes in the serati ducks was calculated by diluting the blood sample with a turk solution then dripped on the hemocytometer and observed under a microscope with a magnification of 40 microns. The data analysis used completely randomized design and statistical measurements using SPSS 21. The results showed that all treatments were significantly different (p <0.05) to meat cholesterol and blood leukocyte counts in serati ducks. The average of cholesterol content of control duck meat (A) and treatment (B, C, and D) respectively: 101.69; 100.50; 97.78; and 92.11mg / mL. The average number of controlled blood leucocytes (A) and treatment (B, C, and D) were: 38.4; 38.13; 43.2; and 44.26x103sel / mm3.
