Abstract

The objective of this research was to performance improvement of vertical crush machine type chopper. The research was conducted done Laboratory and Workshop of Agricultural Enginering at Departement of Agricultural Technology, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya of University from January 2017 to April 2017. The research was completed by using Engineering design and on presented tables and graphs. The method also consisted of three stages : 1) Equipment design approach and equipment fabrication, 2) The assembly instrument and 3) Equipment testing. Parameters measured and calculated in the study were measurement of dust, effective capacity (kg/h), efficiency of machines (%), percentage of loss material (%) , theoritical capacity (kg/h), and electrical energy consumption (kWh). Measurement of dust before being modification highest was 4,5 mg/m³. Measurement of dust after modification was 0,068 mg/m³, theoritical capacity was the highest at (1420 rpm) was 41,5 kg/jam the theoritical capacity was the highest at (1420 rpm) was 34,8 kg/jam, efficiency machine was highest at (1420 rpm) was 83 %, percentage of loss materials was highest at (1420 rpm) speed was 93,1 and concumption of electrical energy was highest at (1420 rpm) was 0,16 kWh.
