Abstract

African Leaves (Vernonia amygdalina Delile) is a plant including to the family of asteraceae. Flavonoid compound has the potential to inhibit the enzyme xantin oxidase as Catalyst for establishment of uric acid. In addition to flavonoids, the compounds that have potential as other antihiperurisemia are alkaloids. Alkaloids are also able to improve the work of uricase enzymes so the purine level remains stable. This study purpose to determine of the antihyperuricemia activity of African leaves ethanol extract in male white rats previously with high purine food. Parameters seen are the number of percent decrease uric acid levels to white male rats. The test animals divided into 6 groups is normal group, positive control, negartive control and group test with therapy dose 100 mg / Kg/BB, 200 mg / Kg/BB and 400 mg / Kg/BB. High purine food induction was performed on the whole group except normal group. Induction is done by mouth every day with volume of administration calculated based on the weight of each male white rats. Test results showed a significant decrease in uric acid levels (P<0,05) of each dose variation in the test group. The higher the dose of African leaves ethanol extract then the higher the level of uric acid in the body of the test animals. Dose 400 mg / Kg/BB is the highest dose to reduce levels of hyperuricemia to resolve hyperuricemia. The value of ED50 from African leaves ethanol extract (EEDA) of 191,44 mg / Kg/BB. Total flavonoid contained on African leaves ethanol extract that is 131,04 mg/kgBB.
