Abstract

Hepatitis A is a health problem in the world, including Indonesia. At the end of 2019, South Sumatra Province, Ogan Ilir District, had Hepatitis A cases with 305 cases of hepatitis A. There were 262 cases of hepatitis A reported at the UPT Clinic Sriwjaya University, including students from Sriwijaya University who live in Indralaya. The purpose of this study was to determine and analyze the relationship between knowledge and attitudes with Hepatitis A prevention behavior in students of Sriwijaya University in Indralaya. This research is a case-control study. The total sample of 94 students (with a ratio of 1: 1), for the case data used were students who were positive for hepatitis A and recorded at the UPT clinic of Sriwijaya University from September 2019 to January 2020. Then for control data from students who had received treatment at the UPT Clinic of Sriwijaya University who did not suffer from hepatitis A. The bivariate results showed that there was a relationship between habit variables (p = 0.001) and the incidence of hepatitis A. Variables that were not related to this study were knowledge (p = 1.00), attitude (p = 0.148). The results of the multivariate analysis showed that the Habit variable was the dominant variable in this study with OR = 5.342; 95% CI = 2,120-13,459. The habits that influence are the habit of washing hands using the same eating utensils with friends and the habit of snacking. The suggestion in this study is that there is a need for education regarding hepatitis A prevention behavior and the establishment of a healthy canteen in each faculty
