Abstract

Background: The nutritional status of children under five in Indonesia according to Basic Health Research (2018) shows that there are 17.7% cases of malnutrition and malnutrition, data obtained from the South Sumatra Provincial Health Office in 2017 also shows that 277 cases of malnutrition were collected. from all districts / cities, and the highest cases occurred in Ogan Ilir district with 14.6% of cases. From the above incidence figures, it shows that the problem of malnutrition in children under five is quite an important problem. Provision of food supplies is quite influential in efforts to improve nutrition for preschool children. Objective: This study aims to determine the factors related to mother's behavior in choosing food for preschool children at TK-IT Robbani Indralaya. Research Methods: The method used in this research is quantitative with a cross-sectional design. With a total sample of 48 respondents with a non probability sampling technique. Instrument: The data collection tool used a questionnaire. Data analysis in this study consisted of univariate for the frequency distribution of each variable, and bivariate data analysis to determine the relationship between education, knowledge, employment, income, and family support on maternal behavior in choosing food supplies using the chi-square statistical test. Conclusion: the results showed that of the 48 respondents 27 respondents (56.3%) behaved well while the remaining 21 respondents (43.7%) behaved poorly in the selection of food supplies for their children. The variables related to the behavior of mothers in choosing food supplies for children are education (p-value = 0.002), knowledge (p-value = 0.005), work (p-value = 0.012) while income (p-value = 1), and Family support (p-value = 0.658) was not related.
