Abstract

Poverty is one of the socio-economic measures in assessing the development success of a regional government. There are so many negative social problems arising as a result of increasing poverty. The problem of this research was how was the influence of economic growth, education, and health on poverty in the Province of South Sumatra in the period of 2003-2013. The objective of this research was to determine the influence of economic growth, education, and health on poverty in the Province of South Sumatra. This research was based on the Circle of Poverty Theory and Human Capital Theory. The data used in this research were the secondary data obtained from the Central Bureau of Statistics. The data were analyzed by using the multiple linear regression and estimated by the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS). The research results indicated that the variables economic growth and education did not significantly affect the poverty, while the variable health significantly affected the poverty in the Province of South Sumatra in the period of 2003-2013.
