Abstract

This research aims to determined the effect of the use of vegetable tanners derived from acacia in the retanning process of the physical quality of tilapia tanned skin and looking for the best concentration of the use of acacia (mimosa). This research was conducted from January to March 2019. This study used a randomized block design with 4 treatment, the concentration difference of acacia extract (mimosa) 0%, 5%, 10%, 15% which was repeated 3 times. The observed parameters in this study were physical analysis consisting of skin thickness, tensile strength, elongation, tear strength, and wrinkle temperature. The results showed that the treatment of different concentrations of acacia (mimosa) extract had a significant effect (on the 95% confidence interval) on the physical quality of tilapia leather. The skin thickness values ranged from 0.12-0.9 mm, tensile strength values 1276.93 N/cm2, elongation value 82.29%, tear strength values 241, 04 N/cm and indigo wrinkle temperature 92.67 OC. The best treatment in the research of tanned tilapia leather is on treatment A3 with a concentration of 15% acacia extract (mimosa), but has a weakness against strength value and elongation value.
