Abstract

Livelihood strategies are various alternative activities or efforts undertaken by to fulfill the necessities of life for sustainability to occur livelihood. Through hope livelihood can know how people or the community makes a living, and how they try to survive. This research is intended to study the strategies of rice farmers in meetings Life needs and thoughts about the livelihood strategies used by households lowland rice farmers in Lebung Bandung Village, Rantau Alai District. This research is a qualitative descriptive study with a unit of analysis of rice farming households rice fields in Lebung Village Bandung. Collecting data obtained through collecting directly, in-depth interviews with 13 peoples and arrangements. Results show that is to maintain sustainability and improve the welfare of farmer households Lowland rice in Desa Lebung Bandung applies 3 (three) livelihood strategies. First, livelihood engineering, namely by expanding arable land, planting 2 (two) times in one year, using 2 seeds that have different periods of time, use more labor and use of technology such as hijack using a tractor. Second, the double income pattern is by utilizing household members to work in households have 2 or more jobs, namely in the On farm, Off Farm and Non Farm sectors. Third, spatial engineering namely the strategy in the form of campaigns in other regions by carrying out rice farming activities rice fields in other villages.
