Abstract

The incidence of anthracnose infected by Colletotrichum gloespoiroides can reach 70% and is reported to be the main cause of post-harvest loss in papaya fruit. Efforts to control anthracnose by applying synthetic fungicides really need to be reduced in order to support the production of healthy fruit that is not bad for health. Nipah leaves contain secondary metabolite compounds which have potential as antifungal activity, such as flavonoids, alkaloids, polyphenols, and tannins. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of nipah extract on the growth of C. gloespoiroides. This research was conducted experimentally by using a completely randomized design. The study consisted of two tests consist of the in vitro inhibition test against the fungus C. gloespoiroides and the in vivo test for the application of nipah leaf extract on papaya fruit. The data were analyzed statistically using analysis of variance and continued testing of Least Significant Different (LSD) at the 5% level. The results showed that treatment of nipah extract on the diameter and percentage of resistance did not have a significant effect, but had an effect on germination. The in-vivo test that has been carried out has no effect on the incubation period and disease incidence in the tested papaya fruit.
