Abstract
This research was an attempt to identify the backward and fonvard Iinkagcs of consumption of electricity, gus and running water and output, incomes, and workforce in Palembang. This research used a quantitative analysis technique applying the input-output model, The input-output secondary data of year 2006 were analyzed for this research. The research results show that the backward linkage pointed to an index of 1.276871 resulting from the faetor computation of nine economic seetor, arranged from the highest to lowest, in which clectricity, gas and running were in the first rank. In other words, these Ihree: electricity, gas and running waler could drag the backward seetors to develop. Seen in the forward linkage, the index pointed to 0.793240, and they ranked in the eighth. This indicatcd that they would find it difficuit to encourage the forward seetors to develop. The multiplier effect analysis showed that, when related to all economic seetor output, they yielded Rp 1.965593 for every Rp 1.00 added, and Rp 0.16255 for each worker's income, Rp 0115554 for consumption of electricity, gas and running. Converted into percentage. one percent increase in the consumption of the three main needs means an addition of 601 workers for all economic seetor. A one per cent increase in the consumption of the main needs means 0.125% workforce addition.
