Abstract

This study aims to determine the condition of poverty experienced by rice farming communities in Tanjung Menang Musi Village, Rantau Bayur Sub-District, Banyuasin District. Where the farmers are trapped in the "poverty circle" and to find out the causes of poverty experienced by rice farming communities in the village of Tanjung Menang Musi. This research is a qualitative research. Data collection in this study was conducted using in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation studies. While the determination of informants is done purposively, namely a technique that aims to take informants from people who are really involved with the problem under study. The main informants numbered nine people and the informants supporting three people. The results of this study use the theory of structural poverty by Selo Mardjan, where poverty suffered by a group of people because the social structure of the community cannot participate in using the sources of income available to them. This includes a lack of unhealthy settlement facilities, lack of communication with the surrounding world and a lack of government policies. While the causes of poverty are poverty due to work ethic, price pressures, semi-traditional agricultural technology, low income and caused by a pattern of life at a level in a life.
