Abstract
Isolation of antibacterial compound from Jengkol (Pithecolobium lobatum Benth) leaves and determined the Minimum Inhibition Concentration (MIC) for Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli has been conducted. The antibacterial activity test and isolation has been done in Genetica and Biotechnology Laboratory of Biology Department, Math and Science Faculty, Sriwijaya University. Antibacterial activity has been tested by using the diffusion method. Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli were used as tested bacteria. The result of this research showed that the antibacterial compound was found from ethyl acetate fraction. The active compound was terpenoid with Rf 0,75. The result of isolation was called isolate E18. The Minimum Inhibition Concentration (MIC) value of isolate E18 for Staphylococcus aureus was 160 µg/ml and Escherichia coli was 200 µg/ml.
