Abstract

Sand iron is an ingredient that used in making sponge iron. To get sponge iron in good quality needed sand iron that have levels of metal iron is above 56%. Enhancement until sand iron could done with tool that apply principle gravity concentration. There is tool processing that apply principle usually used to separate tin sand from its impurities, namely willobi. However, in this study willobi will be used to separate iron sand from its impurities by making changes to the variable cross-sectional area and water discharge. This study aims to analyze ferrous metal content in the feed, analyze ferrous metal content in the concentrate with changes in cross-sectional area and water discharge variables, and analysis of iron sand recovery. This research was conducted by observing the iron sand separation process on willobi and analyzing the grain counting to obtain ferrous metal content in the feed and concentrate. Then the ferrous metal content in the concentrate was selected for each experiment, to determine the level that met the standard for making sponge iron, which was 56%. From the research results, it was found that until metal iron on feed amounting to 49,95%. And on the concentrate there is 3trial that produce until metal iron that Fulfill standard to making sponge iron, that is amounting to 56,28%; 57,09%; and 56,47%. Based on the analysis of recovery, the value of the recovery optimal on willobi amounting to 92,37%.
