Abstract

One of the obstacles on fish farming in swamps is the low avaibility of natural fish food. Organic fertilizer from chicken manure can be applied on fish culture on swamp ponds to increase nutrient that will support to avaibility of plankton as natural fish feed larvae. The purpose of this study was to determine the best dose of chicken manure compost for fertilization in swamps to increase abundance of natural fish feed and its effect on the growth and survival of catfish larvae. The research had been started from July to August 2020 at the Laboratory of Aquaculture Experimental Pond, Aquaculture Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. The research used a completely randomized design (CRD) with 5 treatments and 3 replications. The treatments consisted of without chicken manure compost (P0), fertilizing with chicken manure compost at a dose 0.5 kg.m-3 (P1), 1.0 kg.m-3 (P2), 1.5 kg.m-3 (P3), and 2.0 kg.m-3 (P4). The results of this study indicated that P1 (0.5 kg.m-3) increased the nutrient soil (Nitrogen 0.29%, Phosphor 37.79 mg/100g and Kalium 23.65 mg/100g), the initial soil pH from 4.0 to 7.10, the initial water pH from 3.5 to 9.07, average the abundance of phytoplankton as much as 9731 ind.L-1, zooplankton as much as 268 ind.L-1, absolute growth of catfish larvae 3.54 cm for length, and 0.75 g for weight, and feed efficiency 16.18%.
