Abstract

Background: Malaria is a disease caused by infection of the genus Plasmodium protozoa which is transmitted by the bite of an infected female Anopheles mosquito. In South Sumatra, there were cases of malaria incidence of 1.0% and malaria prevalence cases of 4.0%. Method: This study was a cross-sectional observational analytic study using secondary data collection from the medical records of Dr. MohammadHoesin Palembang. The results obtained were analyzed by univariate and bivariate by using T-test for normal data distribution and Mann Whitney for abnormal distribution. The data results were processed using SPSS. Results and Discussion: The number of leukocytes showed that in the Plasmodium falciparum malaria, the p value> 0.05 was shown by lymphocytes, and monocytes. So that the data is normally distributed while the number of leukocytes, stem neutrophils, segment neutrophils and eosinophils has a p value <0.05 which is not normally distributed. Whereas in the type of non-Plasmodium falciparum malaria, the p value> 0.05 was shown by segment neutrophils and lymphocytes. So that the data is normally distributed whereas, the number of leukocytes, stem neutrophils, eosinophil and monocytes has a value of p<0.05 which is not normally distributed. This study shows there were no significant effect on Plasmodium falciparum malaria with non-falciparum. Conclusions and Suggestions:This study showed that there was no significant difference between the comparison of leukocytes in malaria plasmodium falciparum and non falciparum with (p value> 0.05).
