Abstract

One part of the structure that is most often damaged by earthquakes is the wall. Walls are generally made of brick or adobe, but this material has several weaknesses, namely it is brittle and does not withstand lateral forces due to earthquakes. Reinforced concrete walls made of lightweight concrete are an alternative in additional reinforcement for walls for earthquake-resistant buildings. This study aims to analyze numerically the behavior of reinforced concrete walls with normal concrete materials which are loaded with constant axial loads and cyclic lateral loads. The analysis was carried out using the finite element method in the ANSYS program. The hysteresis curve of the experimental test results was compared with the results of the ANSYS program analysis for walls with normal concrete materials. The comparison of the maximum moment value of the experimental results with the results of the ANSYS numerical test does not exceed the tolerance limit. The wall structure model is then re-analyzed using lightweight concrete material properties with the results of the analysis of hysteresis curves, moment and displacement, maximum story drift achieved, stiffness, and strength. The analysis process of the lightweight concrete wall structure model stops at a drift of 2.0%, the wall structure collapses so that the analysis process and the maximum moment value was not much different when compared to normal concrete walls.
