Abstract

Aerated concrete is a type of concrete that has a specific gravity that is lighter than conventional concrete with a specific gravity of 1140 kg/m3 to 1840 kg/m3. There are many methods that can be done to reduce the specific gravity of a concrete, one of which is by substituting aluminium powder and silica fume for cement. The composition of aerated concrete consists of cement, sand, water, aluminium powder, silica fume and superplasticizer. The composition used in the mixture are 0,2% of aluminium powder, variations in the percentage of silica fume by 10%, 15%, and 20%. Concrete treatment is carried out in two methods, the first one is by immersing the concrete in water for 7, 28, and 56 days and the second method is by autoclave curing for 3, 4, and 5 hours with a temperature of 100 – 140˚C with a pressure of 1,6 bar. This study aims to determine the differences in characteristics between water cured aerated concrete and autoclaved aerated concrete. The results of the concrete compressive strength test shows that the addition of autoclave curing time and the addition of silica fume percentage can increase the compressive strength of aerated concrete more than the compressive strength of aerated concrete with water curing.
