Abstract

Autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC) is one of the lightweight concrete developments with a bulk density between 300 to 1950 kg/m3. AAC is a development of aerated concrete using autoclave curing technology. Furthermore, AAC concrete have a high compressive strength by adding silica fume. The composition of the AAC mixture in this study consisted of cement, quartz sand, aluminium powder, silica fume, water and superplasticizer. Silica fume in this study adding by 10%, 15% and 20% by weight of cement. AAC requires autoclave curing so that in this study, variations of autoclave curing time were 3, 4 and 5 hours. After the concrete has been cured, the concrete will be left at room temperature until it reaches the age of 7, 28 and 56 days to be tested for specific gravity and compressive strength and water absorption when the AAC is 28 days. The results of the compressive strength test using 10% silica fume in each variation of autoclave curing time were 13.76 MPa, 14.48 MPa and 16.12 MPa and specific gravity of 1607.2 kg/m3, 1682.67 kg/m3 and 1698.93 kg/m3. In AAC with 15% silica fume, the compressive strength was 15.32 MPa, 16.02 MPa and 18.43 MPa and specific gravity was 1657.6 kg/m3, 1697.33 kg/m3 and 1718.93 kg/m3. In AAC with 20% silica fume, the results of the compressive strength test are 19.11 MPa, 19.62 MPa and 20.91 MPa and the specific gravity is 1718.13 kg/m3, 1755.2 kg/m3 and 1777.6 kg/m3. The results of this study indicate that increasing the percentage of silica fume and autoclave curing time also increases the compressive strength and specific gravity.
