Abstract

At the time of welding it will definitely cause residual stresses, if this is ignored it will result damage and decrease the service life of the material. This study was conducted to predict and analyze estimation of the residual stress that occurs during welding, and still few studies that discuss the residual stress analysis on the SA-516 Gr 70. the modeling was made using abaqus software and the material used was SA-516 Gr 70. The method used was the finite element method using the abaqus CAE 2017 software. The process that occurs in the abaqus software begins with making a welding model. following the WPS, then continued inputting the material properties of the base and filler material. Then proceed with section on the model, then proceed with the Meshing process which is continued by filling in several welding parameters in the abaqus welding interface plugin (AWI), and then ends with a running job that has been created from the AWI plugin. In this study, analysis was carried out on 3 models with different number of elements and meshing. Model-1 with 4104 elements shows the highest residual stress reaching 8,246e+02 Mpa, model-2 with 6886 elements shows the highest residual stress value of 9.577e+02 Mpa and model-3 with 9680 elements shows the highest residual stress value 9,807 e+02 MPa. The conclusion is that the graph shows the occurrence of tensile and compressive stresses in the residual stresses, and it can be seen from the results that the modeling also experiences distortion.
