Abstract

Quartz sand is a quarry material consisting of silica crystals (SiO2) and contains impurities carried away during the sedimentation. Quartz sand from mining activity produces relatively high silica content of around 90%. In this study, quartz sand was conducted to increase the grade using willobi by utilizing water as a dividing medium to be able to meet the standardization of the flat glass industry with a silica content of 99.1-99.7%. In this study, the analysis of the increase in quartz sand grade using willobi with variable changes in the speed of feeding and the size of the cross-sectional area. Based on the research conducted obtained increased quality of quartz that can meet the standardization of the flat glass industry. There were 2 experiments that had silica grade in accordance with the standardization of the flat glass industry, namely in experiments with speed of feeding 1kg/8minutes with a cross-sectional area of 400cm2 with silica content of 99.19% and has a recovery of 91.26%. Then in the experiment with a speed of feeding 1kg/8minutes with a cross-sectional area of 625cm2 with silica content of 99.14% and has a recovery of 91.59%.
