Abstract

In this study, the permanent magnet generator designed utilizes the waves of the Musi River as the driving input of the designed generator. The river waves will move the float above which has been arranged vertically several permanent magnets which will cut the magnetic field from the stator coil. The generator is designed to move translationally according to wave motion. According to the calculation results, the designed permanent magnet generator is capable of generating a voltage of 18 volts. The results of direct measurements, obtained the average voltage that can be generated by the generator is 10.9 volts. There is a voltage difference of 6 volts between theoretical calculations and direct data collection. The size of the waves, weather conditions and the number of passing ships can affect the stability and magnitude of the voltage obtained. There were several obstacles when data was collected, such as ships being parked too tightly so that PLTGS could not be placed. Circuit losses and mechanical losses can also affect the resulting voltage output. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that the application of a permanent magnet generator that moves translationally utilizing river waves has the potential to generate voltage
