Abstract

Not only effectiveness and time efficiency are a priority in a construction project, effectiveness and efficiency in the use of building materials are also a priority aspect, both in terms of environmental impact and costs. Lack of control over ordering and material handling will have a lot of impact on the occurrence of material waste. The purpose of this study was to determine the causes and handling of residual materials in the construction project of the B campus building of UIN Raden Fatah Palembang. This study uses the Likert scale method. From the results of this study, 34 variables are estimated to be the source of the cause of the residual material, 4 of which are considered as having a large influence, 4 others are in the moderate category, then 11 variables are considered to have a small effect, and 15 others are very small. Variables that are classified as having a large effect on the occurrence of material waste, from the largest to the smallest in a row, are 'orders cannot be made in small quantities', 'errors made by workers', 'remaining cutting materials cannot be used anymore.', and the variable ' ordering errors, excesses, shortages, etc.'. Handling that can be done to minimize the cause of the remaining material is adjusted to the condition of the remaining material. Handling, among others, by repairing the damage, reused, sold, stockpiled, or by throwing it in a garbage dump.
