Abstract

Pulmonary tuberculosis is an infecious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Pulmonary tuberculosis can be cured with appropriate and complete treatment. The key to successful of tuberculosis treatment is adherence. However, patient adherence may decrease because of long-term treatment which takes at least 6 months of medication. In addition, the use of anti-tuberculosis drugs must be taken combined and it can lead to adverse drug reaction (ADR) which possibly makes patient uncomfortable and lead patient to become non-adherent in the treatment. The purpose of this study was to determine how ADR can affect patient adherence as measured by the Modified Morisky Adherense Scale questionnaire. This study used a cross-sectional study with the method of interviewing pulmonary tuberculosis patients undergoing treatment at RSI Siti Khodijah Palembang from February 2021 - March 2021. Sample of this study included 36 respondents. The results showed that the most frequent ADR symptoms experienced by respondents were gastrointestinal disorders (47,4%). The ADR data were then tested for adherence with the Fisher's Exact Test as an alternative analysis test of chi-square because the data doesn’t meet chi-square requirements. The results of Fisher's Exact Test showed that p value 0,113 > 0,05 which means that there was no significant affection of ADR on respondent adherence.
