Abstract

The coastal areas have very promising potential, this is because coastal areas are the natural habitat of many individuals in nature. This potential is disrupted in the form of pollution, pollutants originating from agricultural industrial activities in the upstream river in the form of zinc (Zn) and those from lead (Pb) transportation activities around the coastal area is one of the causes of pollution in the area. Mangrove plants, which are a component of the coastal area, cannot be separated from the impact of heavy metal pollutants. Mangroves, especially the species Avicennia marina, have the ability to accumulate heavy metals around them, this makes Avicennia marina a potential bioindicator. Umbrella Island, which is located in the middle of the Musi River and Telang River and the estuary of the river with the ocean, makes Payung Island potentially polluted due to the accumulation of pollutants in the river flow. The analysis carried out in this study used Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS). This study aims to determine the concentration of heavy metals and the accumulation ability of Avicennia marina mangroves in Payung Island, South Sumatra. The results of this study found that the metal concentrations of Lead (Pb) and Zinc (Zn) in the sediment ranged from 6.46-8.04 mg / kg and 37.6-41.76 mg / kg, this indicates the concentration of Pb and Zn in Pulau Payung is still below the quality standard threshold. Mangrove Avicennia marina is included in the excluder plant which is indicated by the value of BCF <1. Mangrove Avicennia marina in absorbing Zn metal using a phytoextraction mechanism which was marked with a TF value> 1 at all stations, meanwhile, Pb metal uses a phytostabilization mechanism which is indicated by the TF value <1.
