Abstract

One type of lightning flash IC Flash with a single waveform is called Narrow Bipolar Events (NBE). There are two types of NBE, namely positive polarity (PNBE) and negative polarity (NNBE). Based on previous research, 12908 lightning recording data were obtained, but only 1096 data could be analyzed. The data NBE obtained were 111 PNBE and 70 NNBE. Until now, there has been no research that has classified the data from lightning recordings using programming Python. This study aims to classify the data NBE from a total of 12908 lightning recording data using programming python with the classification method random forest. The results of this study obtained NBE 2545data with 2306 PNBE and 239 NNBE. For the average value of characteristics PNBE starting from rise time, zero crossing time, full width at half maximum andratio overshoot/peak amplitude, respectively, are 4.79 ± 3.34 s, 8.28 ± 4.3 s, 4.14 ± 2.15 s and 0.31 ± 0.25 with pulse duration of 33.21 ± 3.34 s. Furthermore, for NNBE, the duration is shorter than PNBE with a pulse duration of 24.88 ± 8.53 s. The average values for other characteristics ranging from rise time, zero crossing time, full width at half maximum and overshoot/peak amplitude ratio are 3.64 ± 3.14 s, 7.65 ± 6.21 s, 3.82 ± 3.1 s and 4.21 ± 28.1. When compared with previous studies with the same number of lightning recordings, the programming result data is relatively close to the same value as the previous study.
