Abstract

Second degree burns are risk of infection, dehydration, and complications if not treated immediately. Cempedak’s (Artocarpus champeden (Lour.) Stokes.) leaves ethanol extract contained secondary metabolites such as flavonoids, steroids, saponins, phenolics and tannins that can accelerate the burn healing process. This research are aims to determine the potential of cempedak leaves ethanol extract in accelerating the healing of second degree burns in male white rats sprague dawley. The tested animals were divided into 5 groups, namely the positive group (Lanakeloid-E®), the negative group, and the test group for the ethanol extract of cempedak leaves with doses of 94, 188, and 376 mg/kgBB. Parameters observed included burns area, percentage of burns healing (% Recovery) and duration of burns healing. The percentage of burns healing (% Recovery) data were analyzed using ANOVA test to see the differences between groups on certain days of observation. The characterization ethanol extract of cempedak leaves based on water content testing parameters obtained results of 4,667 ± 1,155%, drying shrinkage content of 4,907 ± 1,276%, specific gravity content of 1,043 ± 0,003%, water soluble extract content of 36,667 ± 2,887 %, ethanol soluble extract content of 85 ± 5 %, total ash content 1,667 ± 0,557 %, acid insoluble ash content 0,667 ± 0,006 %, total plate count 7,8 × 102 cfu/mL, yeast mold contamination 1,1 × 102 cfu/mL, Pb metal contamination test 0, 2885 mg/kg and 0,000 mg/kg Cu metal contamination test. The results on test animals showed that the ethanol extract of Cempedak K3 leaves with a dose of 376 mg/kgBB was the best extract dose in healing second degree burns, where K3 did not have a significant difference (p>0,05) with the positive group (Lanakeloid-E®), whereas there was a significant difference (p<0,05) between K3 with K1, K2, and the negative group on day-18.
