Abstract
One of the special toxicity tests is the teratogenic test which is carried out to obtain information on the presence of fetal abnormalities that occur due to the administration of test preparations during the formation of fetal organs (organogenesis period) and to complete safety data from the melinjo plant. The dosage given is 700, 850, 1000 and 1150 mg/kgBW. The extract was administered during the organogenesis days of the 9th to 17th days of pregnancy and then the mother mice were dissected on the 18th day to observe the fetus weight, live fetus, dead fetus, implantation, resorption, fetus external abnormalities and fetus skeletal disorders. The result of statistic analysis with ANOVA and Kruskall-Wallis followed by DMRT AND Mann-Whitney showed that extract have a significant effect on pregnant mice weight gain, fetus weight, delay of supraoccipital bone, sacrocaudal vertebra body, sternum bone (shaped), sternum bone (dumbbell-shaped), anterior intermediate phalanx and posterior proximal phalanx (p<0,05). The results of the DMRT (Duncan Multiple Range Test) test showed that the dose of P2 (850 mg/kgBW) was the minimum dose that caused the teratogenic effect (p<0.05), so it could be concluded that the ethanolic extract of melinjo leaves has a teratogenic effect on the fetus of mice (Mus musculus).
