Abstract

Heavy metals Pb and Cu are one of the water pollution pollutants. To minimize heavy metals in the waters did bioremediation using microalgae. One of the wetland water microalgae used as a bioremediation agent is Spirulina sp. The ability of Spirulina sp. in reducing the concentration of heavy metals is different for each heavy metal. This research aims to study the growth of Spirulina sp. in culture media with the addition of heavy metals Cu and Pb and tested the potential of Spirulina sp. in absorbing heavy metals Cu and Pb. This research was conducted from January 2021 to March 2021. The research design used was a Completely Random Design (CRD) with 5 treatments and 3 replications. The variables observed in this research were the growth of Spirulina on heavy metals Pb and Cu, Spirulina's ability to absorb Pb and Cu. The result of this research is the growth of Spirulina sp. in culture media was influenced by the presence of heavy metals Cu and Pb, it was proven on a laboratory scale a decrease in the growth of Spirulina sp. which is characterized by a decrease in the value of OD. In addition, Spirulina sp. able to absorb heavy metal Pb 1 ppm, 3 ppm, 5 ppm and 7 ppm respectively as much as 53%, 45%, 45% and 15%, while for heavy metal Cu as much as 68%, 18%, 3% and 2%.
