Abstract
In this study, the method of electrochemical reduction was carried out to convert CO2 into methanol. To convert CO2 into methanol is done by flowing CO2 in an electrolyzer with a flow rate of 60 mL/minute and electric current with a voltage of 1.6 V. This study used temperatures of 25ºC, 40ºC, 60ºC and 80ºC and used variations in operational time of 2 hours, 4 hours, 6 hours and 8 hours, for characterization carried out by analysis of XRD, CV and EIS. The results of CV characterization of the electrodes showed that the highest ECSA value was the Pt/C electrode of 111.96 cm2/g while the ECSA value of the Cu2O-ZnO/C electrode was 75.67 cm2/g with a trace rate of 50 mV/s. For the EIS characterization results, the highest electrode conductivity values were Pt/C electrodes of 3.429 x 10-4 S/cm and for Cu2O-ZnO/C electrodes of 2.713 x 10-4 S/cm. The results of the conversion of CO2 into methanol were measured using a methanol analyzer with the effect of temperature showing that the highest percent of methanol was at a temperature of 25 ºC at 8.25%, while for the operational time, the highest percent of methanol was at 8 hours with a percent of methanol obtained at 12.245%.
