Abstract

The existence of the phenomenon of familism as a political culture is defined as too much dependence on family ties, which gives birth to the habit of placing family and kinship ties in a higher position than other social obligations. There are various symptoms that underlie the formation of a fanmilism force. First, the stalled cadre of political parties in recruiting qualified regional head candidates. Second, the context of the community that maintains the status quo condition in their area who wants the regional head to rule by encouraging family members or people close to the regional head to replace the incumbent. The purpose of this study is to determine the strength of familism and the form of familial power in the advancement of regent candidates in the 2020 regional head election of Ogan Ilir Regency. The theory used is the kinship theory of David Schendeir. The method used in this study is a qualitative method with a qualitative descriptive type. The data collection techniques carried out in this study were observation, interviews and documentation. As for the results of this study, it is known that the strength of the familialism of the candidate for the regent of Ogan Ilir Regency in the 2020 regional head election is from a direct blood relationship, both from parents (father and mother), siblings, husband, wife and uncles. Utilization of the power of familism can be seen from the election of candidates for regent who advance and the contribution of the family in the success of the election of regional heads. Furthermore, the results of the study also show that the form of familial strength found in Ogan Ilir Regency includes First, familism which is a direct family blood relationship. Second, egoism-familism which is the tendency of society to keep certain families in control of the power. Key words: familism, strength.
