Abstract

This study is entitled Linguistic Politeness as a Character-based Education Implementation in Childhood Education (ECD/PAUD) in Palembang. It aims to describe linguistic politeness among Palembang ECD children who are already in the character-based education and those who are not yet; and to describe the language use by the children of the early childhood education. This study is qualitative and descriptive and uses data collection techniques such as observation sheets, questionnaires, and interviews, with qualitative analysis. The results show that the study subjects used eight politeness strategies: speech indirectness, the use of titles, the use of formalities, the use of euphemism, answer choices, reasons, speech fencing, anduse of nonverbal language. The most dominant strategy was using non-verbal languageand the less dominant strategies were using formalities and using euphimism. In actual use, the research subjects used more than one politeness strategies
