Abstract

Catfish (Clarias sp.) is one type of freshwater fish that has the potential to be developed because it is easy to cultivate and has economic value. One of the limiting factors that can affect production costs and fish quality is stocking density. Stocking density can affect the survival and growth of fish. In addition to having the advantage of faster growth, catfish can also be kept in a variety of flowing water and stagnant water environments. This is an opportunity to take advantage of floating agricultural cultivation land as a place for catfish cultivation that has the potential to be developed. This study aimed to determine the effect of optimal stocking density on the growth and survival of catfish (Clarias sp.) which is cultivated in floating agricultural cultivation. This study used a randomized block design with three treatments and two grup. The treatment given was the stocking density of 10, 20 and 30 catfish m-2 and the group given was a pond position. The results showed that the best stocking density was 10 fish m-2 with absolute weight growth 52.04 g, absolute length growth 10.91 cm, specific growth rate 8.17% BW day-1, food conversion ratio 0.81, and survival rate 95.00%. The groups in each treatment had no significant effect on absolute growth (length and weight), food conversion ratio and survival rate. The floating farming system uses a capillary system where there is an interaction between catfish farming and the plants used. Fish that produce ammonia is useful for nutrients for plants and plants can reduce the ammonia contained in fish rearing pond water. The water quality obtained from the study for temperature was 26.3-28.9°C, pH 6.9-7.3, dissolved oxygen ranged from 3.50-4.90 mg L-1 and ammonia ranged from 0.20-1.56 mg L-1.
