Abstract

This study was conducted to evaluate the growth and yield of two parental rice varieties, Inpago 10 and Inpara 8, and to obtain the F1 progeny resulted from crossing of two parental varieties expected to have dual tolerant characteristics which are drought stress at generative phase and submergence stress at vegetative phase. The study was carried out in the greenhouse of Agricultural Cultivation Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University, Indralaya, Ogan Ilir, started from August to December 2020. The observed variables included plant height, tiller number per clump, spikelet number per panicle, spikelet number per clump, spikelet weight per panicle, spikelet fresh weight per clump, spikelet dry weight per clump, plant dry weight, 1000 grains weight, empty grain percentage, flowering age, harvesting age, crossing percentage, spikelet number of crossing. Data then were analyzed using analysis of variance and Tukey test to evaluate the difference among varieties. Results showed that Inpago 10 comparatively had better growth and yield compared to Inpara 8 variety as seen on the variables of plant height, spikelet number per panicle, spikelet number per clump, spikelet weight per panicle, spikelet fresh weight per clump, spikelet dry weight per clump, plant dry weight, and empty grain percentage. While for crossing result, the highest resulted spikelet number of crossing was obtained from Inpago 10 resipien parent.
