Abstract
Formula milk is a dairy product that has a content similar to breast milk which, if given to babies less than 6 months old, can cause babies to gain weight more quickly, thus increasing the baby's risk of gaining excess weight. This study aims to analyze the relationship between the frequency of giving formula milk to the weight gain of infants aged 1-6 months in Soak Batok Village, Ogan Ilir Regency. This research is a type of analytic research with cross sectional method. The population in this study were all infants aged 1-6 months who consumed formula milk in Soak Batok Village, Ogan Ilir Regency. The sampling technique used the two-proportion difference test formula. The sample in this study amounted to 36 people. The data analysis technique used univariate and bivariate analysis. The results of bivariate analysis showed that there was a relationship between the frequency of formula feeding (p-value = 0.006), knowledge of maternal nutrition (p-value = 0.001), family income (p-value = 0.025) and weight gain of infants aged 1-6 months in Soak Batok Village, Ogan Ilir Regency. The majority of infants fed formula milk with a high frequency experienced excess weight gain of 55%, while the majority of infants fed formula milk with a low frequency had normal weight gain of 93.7%. It is expected for parents of babies to reduce the feeding of formula milk with a high frequency (≥8 times/day) in accordance with the recommended dose of 150ml/kg baby body weight per day to reduce the risk of babies experiencing excess weight gain and for health workers are expected to provide counseling to the community, especially pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers on how to assess the nutritional status of infants and the right time to give formula milk so that early complementary breastfeeding can be avoided.
