Abstract

COVID-19 is a health problem that is currently in the spotlight and world attention due to Corona Virus Disease-19. A person's ability to control himself will affect compliance with 3M health protocols (wearing masks, maintaining distance and washing hands) which is expected to be able to reduce the percentage of cases and break the chain of transmission of the COVID-19 disease. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between adolescent self-control and adherence to the COVID-19 health protocol. This research method using analytic observational method with a quantitative approach with a cross sectional design. The number of respondents in this study was 100 samples using the voluntary sampling method. Information was collected online via google form in February 2021. Data were analyzed using a simple linear regression test. The results of the univariate study showed that 53 (53%) respondents had good adherence to the COVID-19 health protocol and 47 (47%) had poor behavior. The results of the bivariate analysis showed that there was a significant relationship between behavioral control - (p-value = <0.006; r = 0.274; R2 = 0.75), cognitive control (p-value = <0,000; r = 0.425; R2 = 0.180), control. decision (p-value = <0.000; r = 0.473; R2 = 0.224) on compliance with the COVID-19 health protocol. The conclusion of this study is that some of the adolescent population in the city of Palembang are able to modify and control behavior, manage information and can choose actions well and can comply with the COVID-19 3M health protocol (wearing masks, keeping a distance and washing hands properly. Suggestions for this study are for schools and universities to collaborate with government and private agencies to empower youth as role models or adolescents as role models for their peers by involving youth in the selection of Health Protocols Ambassadors as a means of disseminating health information and education related to COVID-19
