Abstract

The manufacture of bio briquettes from carbonized corn cobs biomass has been carried out using a furnace, with variations in carbonization temperature 400 , 500 and 600 , and variations carbonization time of 30 minute, 60 minute and 90 minute. After the carbonization process, corn cobs charcoal was obtained, then crushed and sieved using a 100 mesh sieve. After the process, the charcoal is mixed with tapioca adhesive and mashed plantain peel then printed and pressed. Testing the caracteristics of bio briquetts was carried by analyzing water content, ash content, volatile metter content, carbon content, density and the calorific value, by using tools such as furnace, oven and vernier caliper. Based on variations in carbonization temperature 400 , 500 and 600 , the best treatment was obtained on bio briquettes with a carbonization temperature variation of 600 and based on variation in carbonization time 30 minute, 60 minute and 90 minute, the best treatment was obtained on bio briquettes with a carbonization time variation of 90 minutes, with a water content of 7.041%, ash content of 7.1623%, volatile metter content of 46.2097%, carbon content of 40.6498%, density of bio briquttes before settling was 11868.1 g/cm3, density of bio briquettes after settling was 7772.6 g/cm3, ratio relaxion of bio briquette of 1.52 and calorific value of 17892.62 cal/g. Based on the bio briquett characterization, the water content, ash content and the calorific value have met the SNI 01-6235-2000.
