Abstract

Instagram is a social media that is used to interact visually through photos or videos uploaded by Instagram account users and can be accessed by everyone, including young people, namely students of Communication Studies at Sriwijaya Indralaya University. Along with the increase in users, Instagram continues to innovate by presenting various interesting new features. This causes Instagram users to compete to present themselves in their best version to attract the sympathy of people who see it as a role performance on stage. Not infrequently what is displayed is different from reality. This study aims to see how the front stage in the display of Instagram feeds for students of Communication Science, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Sriwijaya University. This study uses the dramaturgical theory of Erving Goffman. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative with purposive selection of informants. Informants in this study amounted to 6 (six) people who are students of Communication Science at the University of Sriwijaya Indralaya. The results of this study indicate that the background of the front stage appearance on Instagram is the reason for choosing to use Instagram, Instagram is used to seek sympathy, and for self image. Then, the front stage display that was displayed was the first Instagram account of the Fisip Unsri Indralaya Communication Science student. The backstage in this research is the second account and the close friend feature used by students of Communication Studies at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Unsri Indralaya.
